Jake is a mathematician and software engineer. He earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh, where he held a research fellowship as a graduate student for two years. He studied the structure of subriemannian manifolds, among the most flexibly applicable yet underappreciated objects in modern geometry.  Jake defended his thesis Hölder Continuous Mappings into Subriemannian Manifolds in 2018.  Since then Jake has applied his knowledge of mathematics and algorithms to Human Resources (Indeed, 2019), Accounting (Ender Property Management, which Jake cofounded, 2019-2024), Education Technology (Trilogy, 2024-2025), and Energy (Base Power, 2026).  Having observed a world that is becoming decreasingly mathematically literate at a time when we need the opposite, Jake is aiming to make a significant impact on how humans, including his own children, learn mathematics.
